Electrical Box Wraps in Alexandria, MN

Call for Artists: Transform Alexandria’s Streets!

We are transforming electrical boxes across Alexandria into vibrant works of art—and your design could be the next one featured!

Artist Compensation: $400 per selected box. (Note: Artists must submit a portfolio of 6–8 pieces for consideration).
Exhibition: Final designs will be high-quality wraps displayed on utility boxes at sponsoring businesses throughout Alexandria.
Submission Requirements: All entries must include a completed Artist Application (see form below).
Artwork Eligibility: We welcome new original designs or existing original works. To ensure local variety, existing works must not be currently on permanent public display within a 30-mile radius of Alexandria.
Pro-Tip: To increase your chances of selection, please submit 5–8 cohesive pieces that reflect a consistent style, theme, or color palette.

Selection Process

All submissions will be reviewed by the City of Alexandria, Alexandria Light and Power, and The Arts Initiative committee. Approved designs will be added to our official Design Catalog, where local sponsors will choose the final artwork for their specific locations.

The Artist retains all inherent copyrights to their original artwork. By submitting an entry, the Artist grants the City of Alexandria, Alexandria Light and Power, and The Arts Initiative (the "Organizers") a non-exclusive, royalty-free, perpetual license to reproduce and display the artwork specifically for the Utility Box Wrap project. This includes the right to use images of the finished work for promotional, marketing, and archival purposes in print or digital media. The Artist warrants that the work is original and does not infringe upon the intellectual property rights of any third party.

When submitting your design application, you confirm the following:

You are the original creator of the design and have not copied anyone else’s original work.

Your design does not infringe on anyone else’s intellectual property or copyrights.

If anyone else has contributed to your design you have obtained a signed, written agreement from that person assigning all of their rights in the contribution to you.

Your artwork is not already publicly displayed within 30 miles of Alexandria

By Submitting this application electronically, you are indicating your understanding that, the Artist, retains all inherent copyrights to their original artwork. By submitting an entry, the Artist grants the City of Alexandria, Alexandria Light and Power, and The Arts Initiative (the "Organizers") a non-exclusive, royalty-free, perpetual license to reproduce and display the artwork specifically for the Utility Box Wrap project. This includes the right to use images of the finished work for promotional, marketing, and archival purposes in print or digital media. The Artist warrants that the work is original and does not infringe upon the intellectual property rights of any third party.

If your design is selected by a sponsor, you will be paid a stipend of $400. Payment will be received when the project is completed.

You will be acknowledged as the artist on project signage and in other publications or online.

You acknowledge and agree that, due to the nature of public art, the Arts Initiative, Alexandria Chamber of Commerce, City of Alexandria, Alexandria Light and Power, business sponsor, property owner, and project manager will not be held liable in the event of vandalism or damage. If the artist is unable to repair any damage that may occur, the Arts Initiative shall have the right to make repairs, even if the repairs would create a distortion or modification under VARA, 17USC 106a.

Assurances and Terms

I agree to all terms listed on this application. I certify that all statements made in this application are true. I agree to release any claims against the Arts Initiative, Alexandria Chamber of Commerce, City of Alexandria, Alexandria Light and Power, business owner, property owner, and project manager that may arise regarding my artwork. I have read all the requirements for the Alexandria Electrical Box Project.
